Mary Buckner Kelley, born on June 26, 1922, in Halls, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on March 5, 2026, in Selmer, Tennessee, at the age of 103. Her life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, family, and an indomitable spirit that inspired all who knew her.
For over 40 years, Mary resided in New Albany, Mississippi, a place that held many cherished memories for her until she made the move to Selmer at the age of 96. She was a devoted homemaker, known for her unwavering strength and the countless ways she contributed to her family and community. In addition to managing her household, Mary worked in several factories during her lifetime, showcasing her dedication and resilience.
Mary's love for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. She had a remarkable green thumb, dedicating her time to working with flowers and gardening, bringing beauty to her surroundings. Even into her late 90s, she continued to push mow and weed her yard, a testament to her vitality and determination. Mary was also musically inclined, playing guitar and composing several songs that reflected her joyous spirit. Her passion for quilting and cooking brought warmth to her home and created cherished memories around the dinner table.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Whiteville, Mary was deeply rooted in her faith and community. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, and her legacy of love will live on through her family.
Mary leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory. She is survived by her daughters, Betty Cartwright of Bethel Springs, Mary Evelyn Doyle of Whiteville, and Lois Hurst (Leon) of Bethel Springs. Two daughter in laws, Ann Kelley of Laconia and Diane Kelley of Mathison, MS. Her grandchildren, Shelia Kelley, Justin Kelley, Rita Hooper (Larry), Kelly Morris, Jennie Graber (Michael), Kevin Treadway (Sherry), and Jason Blakely (Leslie), will carry forward her vibrant spirit. Additionally, she is blessed with 20 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, ensuring that her legacy of love continues to flourish.
Mary is reunited in eternal rest with her beloved husband, Albert "Pete" Kelley, and her parents, John Buckner and Minnie Irene Duncan Buckner. She joins her sons, Albert Kelley, Jr., Larry Kelley, Douglas Kelley and Linda, Roy and Mary Ann Kelley, as well as six brothers and five sisters, each of whom shaped her life in profound ways. She also was preceded in death by six grandchildren, Lisa Cole, Julie Adams, Jason Kelley, Scott Kelley, Shawn Kelley and Wayne Kelley.
A visitation will be held on March 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, and interment at Melrose Cemetery in Whiteville. All who knew and loved Mary are encouraged to gather and celebrate the extraordinary life she lived—a life overflowing with love, resilience, and the joy of family.
