Mrs. Mary A. Burnett passed from this life Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 28 days.
Born Sunday, January 22, 1928 in Memphis, she was the daughter of Austin and Elsie Belle Farris Avent. She graduated from Bolivar Central High School and married Mr. Lushios E. Burnett, Jr. on February 9, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 7, 2011. She worked as a cook at Bolivar Elementary School and was cafeteria manager of Toone Elementary School. She then became a seamstress and was a patient care technician at Western Mental Health Institute. After her retirement she continued to volunteer as a seamstress at WMHI. She loved to travel with the Toone Senior Citizens, was a very active member of the Home Demonstration Club and volunteered at Pine Meadows. She was a member of Toone Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday School and she lived all her life in Hardeman County.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by 3 daughters and their husbands, Kay Burnett Qualls (David) of Fayetteville, TN, Nonie Burnett Chaudary (Shahzad) of Atlanta, GA, and Mary Burnett Davis (Randy) of Jackson, TN; 3 sons and their wives, Ed Burnett (Betty) of Bartlett, Michael Burnett (Judy) of Bolivar, TN and Clayton Burnett (Debby) of Grand Junction, TN; a brother Thomas Avent and his wife Delsie of Olive Branch, MS; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister Alice Moore and a brother Jerry Avent.
