Mary Frances Harrison

June 2, 1928 — November 25, 2020

Mary Frances Sweatman Harrison was born June 2, 1928 in Ripley, MS the daughter of the late Clarence Lee and Lydia Mae Lawson Sweatman.

She was united in marriage to Elmer William (Bill) Harrison on August 20, 1945.

When Mrs. Harrison attained the age of 43, her husband Bill passed away. She never remarried, concerned that her sons would not approve of the man she might select to be their step-father.

Mrs. Harrison worked for Garan Manufacturing in Adamsville and other garment factories before obtaining a job with ITT in Corinth, from which she retired. Within weeks of retiring, Mrs. Harrison went back to work for Wal-Mart in Savannah, where she spent 25 plus years as a cashier and door greeter, retiring at the age of 89. She obtained her GED at the age of 65 and was always very active. She was a people person and enjoyed making quilts and working jigsaw puzzles in her free time. Mrs. Harrison was very health-conscious and liked to walk whenever weather permitted. Reading was also a favorite passion. Mrs. Harrison was a charter member of Emmanuel Tabernacle Holiness Church in Stantonville and was the oldest living member. She never missed a service unless she was ill; she loved her Lord, church and church family with all her heart.

Mrs. Harrison departed this life on November 25, 2020 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 92 Years, 5 Months, 23 Days. She is survived by three sons: William Travis Harrison, Sr. (Shirl) of Michie, TN, Jimmie Carl Harrison of Colorado, and Ernest Terry Harrison (Loretta) of Michie, TN; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Gatha Kay Edwards of Michie, TN, Nellie Ruth McCoy of Bethel Springs, TN, Janice Violet Davis of Savannah, TN, Margaret Pricilla Newman (Dale) of Mountain City, TN, and Alice Marie Blackwell (Larry) of Parsons, TN; three brothers: Lester Orlander Sweatman of Guntown, MS, Elmer Ray Sweatman (Wanda) of Decaturville, TN, and Frankie Glen Sweatman (Betty) of Sardis, TN; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Steven Harrison and wife Rachel; a granddaughter, Krista Harrison; a grandson, Paul Harrison; a step-grandson, Michael Dale Denson; two sisters, Merline Rapheal (Sweatman) McCain and Natha Fay (Sweatman) Parmley; and two brothers, Henry Lee Sweatman and Arthur Wesley Sweatman.
