Mary Jo
Plunk
Oct 7, 1945 — Jun 21, 2026
Mary Jo Plunk, a woman of remarkable strength and dedication passed away on June 21, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on October 7, 1945, in Finger, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. Plunk and Beulah C. Massengill Plunk.
On Christmas Eve in 1965, Mary Jo married the love of her life, Garrey T. "Peck" Plunk. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and an extraordinary work ethic. For many years, Mary Jo worked as a skilled sewing machine operator across several local factories. Her dedication didn't stop when the factory whistle blew; after putting in a full shift, she would head straight home, climb onto her own tractor, and work the family farm alongside Peck. A favorite family story captures their bond perfectly: Peck on his tractor, Mary Jo on hers, working side-by-side until dark. Afterward, she would head inside to prepare supper, only to rise and do it all over again the next day. As her family proudly recalls, Mary Jo was truly never afraid of hard work.
In addition to her labor on the farm and in the factories, Mary Jo was a devoted homemaker who found great joy in tending to her beautiful flower beds.
Following the passing of her husband Garrey on May 1, 2006, Mary Jo embraced new adventures. Alongside her sister Linda and brother-in-law Sammy, she traveled out west to explore several beautiful locations. She even celebrated her birthday with an unforgettable boat ride under Niagara Falls, embracing life's moments with joy and curiosity.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Beulah Plunk; her husband, Garrey "Peck" Plunk; her sister, Doris Davis; her brother-in-law, Ernest Davis; and her son-in-law, Chris Fullington.
Her legacy of love and hard work lives on through her family. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Fullington of Finger, TN; her sister, Linda Russom and husband Sammy of Bethel Springs, TN; her granddaughter, Martina Landreth; a host of loving nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog and companion, Sassy.
Mary Jo will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her fierce work ethic, her adventurous spirit, and the enduring love she gave to her family.
