Mary Pyron Lambert, 94, of Savannah, Tennessee, was born March 21, 1931, in Counce, Tennessee, and departed this life on August 9, 2025, in Haleyville, Alabama. She was the second child of Owen and Emma Fields Pyron.
Mary graduated from Shiloh High School in 1949 and married Herman Lambert, on April 15, 1950. In the fall of 1953, Mary and Herman moved “across the river” to make their home in Walkertown. She was a devoted member of Barnhill Methodist Church, where she faithfully served in many capacities, and was honored to be its oldest member.
A gifted seamstress, Mary could create anything from doll clothes to ballet costumes for the Birmingham Ballet. Later, she worked for more than 20 years in the fabric department at Wal-Mart, where she shared her knowledge of fabrics, patterns, and sewing techniques with countless customers.
Mary was the true embodiment of a farmer’s wife—always ready with hot meals delivered to the river bottom, Pickwick, or wherever Herman and Gerry were in the field. She filled her shelves and freezer with home-grown vegetables, jams, and jellies to help provide for her family. She loved nature—especially, flowers, birds, and the brilliant colors of fall leaves.
Nancy and Gerry are forever grateful for their mother’s sacrifices for them, and for the love, character, and work ethic she modeled and instilled in their lives.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Scottie) Defoor of Haleyville, AL; son Gerry Lambert of Savannah, TN; granddaughter Jennifer (Tony) Brewer of Hamilton, AL; and great-grandson Lance Cagle of Hamilton, AL, who could always bring the biggest smile to her face. She is also survived by sisters Linda Wilkerson of Adamsville, TN and Fay (Wayne) Jamerson of Adamsville, TN; sister-in-law Thelma Lambert Tucker of Corinth, MS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herman Lambert; parents Owen and Emma Pyron; brother Paul Pyron; sisters Gwen Easley and Martha Armstrong; and infant siblings.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Tanya Hood and Sarah Markham of Amedisys Hospice and her sitter Elizabeth Campbell. Your care, compassion, and love have been a blessing to all of us.
