Mary Frances McCullar

Mary Frances McCullar was born on November 20, 1937, in Selmer, Tennessee, daughter of the late Noah Leonard Sweat and Ludie Frances King Sweat. On November 26, 1960, she embarked on a beautiful journey of love and partnership when she married James McCullar.

Mary was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Selmer, Mary’s faith was a guiding light in her life. She enjoyed tending to her plants. More than anything, Mary treasured the moments spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Mary passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 28 days. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, and the impact she had on those around her.

She is survived by her husband, James McCullar of Selmer, TN; daughter, Torie Scott and husband Bobby of Middleton, TN; son, Clay McCullar and wife Jennifer of Selmer, TN; sister, Brenda Carol Robbins of Selmer, TN; grandchildren: Ashley Garrison and husband Shawn of Selmer, TN, Heather Blackburn and husband Justin of Brownsville, TN, Clay Robert McCullar and fiance Keirstan of Savannah, TN; great grandchildren: Jonah Garrison, Bristol Garrison, Harper Blackburn, Seger Garrison, Taron McCullar and Stella McCullar; sister-in-law, Virginia Sweat of CT; brother-in-law, J.R. Tull of Bethel Springs, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Evelyn Tull and Judy Pearl Tacker and husband Curtis "Buster"; brother, Johnny Edward Sweat; brother-in-law, James Robbins.
