Mary Elizabeth Neill

April 7, 1926 — May 25, 2020

Mary Elizabeth Shutt Neill was born in Hardin County, Tennessee, on April 7, 1926. She was the daughter of the late John Wesley Shutt and Alma Blount Shutt. On December 27, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to Loyd T. Neill, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1998.

Mary, better known to most as Nannie, was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She retired from Brown Shoe Company with over 40 years of service. Nannie loved being outside and working in her yard. She also enjoyed going on the annual Army Reunion trip each summer. Her love for sports was evident as she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play all sports and loved UT women's basketball games.

The love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren far exceeded her love of the outdoors and sports. She loved spending time with them whether on her front porch or on little trips they took. Nannie never once failed to let you know how proud she was of each and everyone of the members of the family.

Nannie departed this life on Monday, May 25, 2020, in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 18 days.

Nannie is survived by her children: Gale Mitchell and husband Jimmy, Tony Neill and wife Joan, JoAnne Arendall and husband Larry, and Craig Neill; grandchildren: Christie Mitchell Patton and husband Chuck, Cindy Mitchell Hughes and husband Steve, Jennifer Arendall DeBerry and husband Brett, Clint Arendall and wife Shari, and Bo Neill and wife Danica; great grandchildren: Mary Katelyn Davis, Callie Davis, Halle Grace Patton, Emma Patton, Lillie Beth DeBerry, Lainey DeBerry, J.C. Arendall, and Charlotte Neill. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Nancy Jo Shutt of Henderson, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Nannie was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 52 years, four sisters, Ella Lois Rhea, Lessie Jean Whitlow, Nell Glean Neill, and Winnie Gall Calloway and one brother, Wesley Malone Shutt.
