Mrs. Mary Sue McCreary Griggs, passed away peacefully in Lebanon, Tn on June 4, 2025, just two days shy of her 81st birthday. Born in Omaha, NE on June 6, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Ewing Finnis McCreary and Marion Louise Gibb McCreary.

Throughout her life, Mary dedicated herself to service and community engagement. She served as the Director at the American Red Cross, where her leadership and compassion made a significant impact on countless lives. In addition, she contributed her skills and time as the Secretary at the University of Florida, fostering connections and supporting the educational mission of the institution.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mary cherished her family and was a loving wife to her beloved husband, Trevis Wilford Griggs, and mother to her three daughters: Debbie Hendrix and her husband Terry, Laura Rogers and her husband Allen, and Brandi Bluemel and her husband Ted. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Meredith, Evan, Jordan, Kaitlin, Landon, Reagan, Jarrod, Shaina, Cheyenne, and Shawnee, along with her great-grandchildren, Christian, Kale, Everly, Lincoln, Tristyn, Tatum, Ryder, and Salem. Their lives are a testament to the nurturing spirit and love that Mary imparted throughout her years.

Mary was predeceased by her brother, Patrick McCreary, and her dear daughter, Sheri Willis, who is remembered fondly by her surviving husband, Dudley Willis. She also mourned the loss of her grandchild, Madison. 

An individual of vibrant passions, Mary delighted in reading books, tending to her beloved garden filled with flowers, and spending time with her dogs and cats. Her adventurous spirit was evident as she enjoyed snow sledding, attending walking horse shows, and expressing her creativity through crocheting. 

Mary's loved ones invite family and friends to join them in celebrating her remarkable life. Visitation will be held on June 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, both taking place at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Waynesboro, Tn. Inurnment to follow at Memorial Gardens in Waynesboro.  

The essence of Mary Sue Griggs will continue to shine brightly in the memories of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the communities she served so selflessly.
