Obituary

Mary Virginia Wardlow Matlock, age 93, departed this life on March 11, 2026, in Adamsville, Tennessee. She was born on September 22, 1932, in Michie, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Kenneth Brown Wardlow and Velma Reid Wardlow.

In March of 1951, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Odus Matlock. Their marriage was a beautiful example of devotion and partnership that lasted nearly seven decades, until his passing on October 31, 2019.

Mrs. Matlock was known throughout the Selmer community for her warm spirit, her eye for style, and her genuine kindness. Over the years she served in many roles. She worked as a teller at Selmer Bank and Trust, managed Kenwin Shop in Selmer, owned and operated The Snooty Fox, and later managed Yvonne’s Clothing Store. In later years, she worked with Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, assisting families in planning visitations, where her gentle nature brought comfort to many during difficult times.

While she enjoyed her work, Mrs. Matlock found her greatest joy in the people she loved. She especially cherished shopping trips with her daughter, Mary Todd—often visiting Macy’s, Belk, and Madison Lighting when it was open. Her grandson held a very special place in her heart, and time spent with him was among the moments she treasured most.

Mrs. Matlock was known for always caring for others. Her home was welcoming, and her kitchen was often filled with something wonderful cooking. She was a wonderful cook, and her pecan pie was especially loved by family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Mary Todd Tucker and husband Charlie of Ramer, Tennessee, and her beloved grandson, Harrison Reid Tucker of Ramer, Tennessee.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Audene Childers and Christine Atkins, and one brother, Gordon Wardlow.

Mrs. Matlock will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
