Maurice Suggs, born on February 4, 1938, in McNairy County, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on June 29, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 87 years old.
Maurice enjoyed a distinguished career as a tool and die maker, dedicating many years of service at Rexam in Olive Branch, MS, from where he eventually retired. His commitment to his work illustrated his strong work ethic and attention to detail that he brought into all aspects of his life.
Education was an important aspect of Maurice's journey; he graduated from Ramer High School, setting the foundation for a lifetime of learning and growth. His passion extended beyond his career as he cherished various hobbies and interests. Maurice spent many joyful hours deer hunting and indulging in his love for old muscle cars and drag racing. He also had a deep appreciation for gospel music, often attending singings, and relished every moment spent with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Maurice was a faithful member of Chewalla Baptist Church and a proud lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, reflecting both his interest in hunting and firearms and his dedication to preserving heritage and tradition.
Maurice is survived by his loving family, including his two sons, David Suggs and wife Tara of Horn Lake, MS and Greg Suggs and wife Beth of Collierville, TN. He was a cherished grandfather to four grandchildren: Michael Suggs, B. J. Suggs, Katie Suggs, and Ashlign Shoemaker, and a devoted great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren: Lexi Suggs, Remi Suggs, Cooper Pryor, and Grace Feathers. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Jean Crewes of Indiana, and his brother, Clay Suggs and wife Sue of Mayfield, KY, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethridge Franklin and Thelma Rosie Etta Srygley Suggs; his beloved spouse, Greta Sue Shannon Suggs; his son, Lynn Suggs; and his siblings, Eleanor Janet Michael and Arnold Lee Suggs.
Maurice’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and the precious connections forged with those he loved. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
