MAX REDDIN

Henderson, TN: Max Edward Reddin age 99, passed away Tuesday morning,  November 28, 2023, at his home.

He was born July 19, 1924, at Milledgeville, the son of the late, Marvin Elbert and Mattie Oca Greene Reddin. He started school at Enville at the age of four and graduated from Chester County High School in 1941, at the age of sixteen.

After graduation he started working at Lexington Tennessee Farm Bureau measuring land and farms.  He began working at the Salant and Salant shirt factory in January 1942.  He married Vadeen Smith on May 26, 1943.  He worked a while in 1944 for Memphis War Industries and later that year returned to Salant and Salant.

May 18, 1945, their daughter Shirley Jean was born while they lived on West Main Street where Centennial Bank parking lot is currently located.  They moved in the fall of 1948 to the Four Way Community and lived there forty years.   In the fall of 1949, he started wiring houses and doing plumbing work.  He installed the first window air-conditioner in Henderson at the Gardner Hill Pharmacy in 1952 and the first central air-conditioning unit four years later in Enville.   In January 1956 he built the building at 615 West Main and started selling GE appliances.  Vadeen opened and beauty shop in 1957 in the same building.  This business would become Reddin Electric Company.

He and Vadeen started attending ballgames when Shirley played and never quit attending and supporting Chester County Athletics, even earning him a dedicated seat with his name on it at the CCHS gym.

Reddin Electric Co. became a family business with Vadeen, Shirley and husband Jerry, and eventually granddaughter Marsha working together.  Max retired and closed the business after 47 years, but he continued to repair appliances at his home up until one week before his death at the age of 99.

He was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church and attended First Baptist Church Henderson for the past twenty plus years.

In their earlier years Max and Vadeen enjoyed traveling to Panama City Beach and the Smoky Mountains.
