MAXINE GEE SMALLWOOD

Bethel Springs, TN: Maxine Gee Smallwood age 90 passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Magnolia Regional Health Center at Corinth, MS.

Mrs. Smallwood was born September 11, 1926 in McNairy County and reared in the Refuge community, the daughter of the late Austin L. and Velmer Harris Gee. She attended schools at Bethel Springs and in 1946 married Claude Franklin Smallwood. They made their home in the Refuge community where Mr. Smallwood was employed at Brown Shoe Company in Selmer and Mrs. Smallwood was employed at Harmon International in Bolivar for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Smallwood died in 1983. She was a member of Fourth Street Church of Christ in Selmer.

She is survived by a son, Morris Smallwood and wife Jolene, a daughter JoAnn Estes and husband Doug, a granddaughter, Stacie Black all of Bethel Springs, two step grandchildren, Jennifer Teet and husband David and Kristie Estes, six step great-grandchildren, and some very special cousins.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Roy Sharp and Jim Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Refuge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 5:00 PM on Thursday.
