Michael DeWayne
Smith
August 2, 1968 – June 11, 2026
Michael DeWayne Smith, age 57, passed away on June 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, warmth, and laughter. Born on August 2, 1968, in Henderson, Tennessee, to Albert W. Brown and Jane Raye Ruth Brown, Michael was a man who deeply valued hard work and community connection. He dedicated 25 years of loyal service to Kellogg's before spending the last two years working as a delivery driver for HCI in Jackson, Tennessee. On May 26, 1994, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Schierbaum Smith, and together they built a beautiful life.
Michael was an enthusiastic supporter of the Adamsville Football program, pouring his time and energy into supporting the young athletes. A true history buff, he had a deep fascination with Civil War history, American Revolution history, and Baseball history, passionately collecting memorabilia from all three throughout his life. At home, he adored his beloved "fur Baby," Poncho. Known as an early riser, Michael effectively shut the world down right at 4:00 PM every day to "rest his eyes," which invariably meant finding his favorite spot sleeping in his recliner. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and his close group of friends who were just like brothers to him.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jane Brown, and his brother, Donald Brown. His memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Smith; his daughters, Arianne Cathey and her husband Justan, and Katie Amanda Tomaszewski and her husband Codye; his sisters, Karen Browning and her husband Jeff of Adamsville, TN, Angie Brown Hill and her husband Terry of Selmer, TN, and Tina Carter and her husband Jason of Murray, KY; his treasured grandchildren, Jacob, Bella, Sawyer, Anslyn, and Jedidiah; and his lifelong friends who were like brothers, Steve Pickens, Justin Jackson, Elgin McKinley, and Dwayne Sowell. Michael’s steadfast presence, love for history, and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
