Michael T. (Mike) Richard Michael Thomas Richard entered this life September 23, 1956, the youngest of five sons and five daughters born to E. D. Richard and the late Mai Del Richard of Ramer, Tennessee, in the Eastview Community. He returned home to be with God on June 2, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Even as a young man, Mike formed close friendships that endured all of his life. All who know Mike remember his loyalty, his devotion to family and friends, and his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to hunt and fish, and had an extensive collection of shot glasses from around the world, many of them given by friends. He also collected old hats and wore them often. He was a member of the Selmer Moose Lodge.
His work in bridge construction with the Dement Company took him to Mississippi and Louisiana during his younger years. Later he was employed by GE in Selmer until illness forced him into retirement.
Mike loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church until his illness prevented his attending. Even when homebound, he continued to pray for its members as he learned of their needs.
Following in the footsteps of his daddy, Mike inherited the ability to appreciate life and to love and care for all people. In addition to his family, he leaves a wealth of friends.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Libby Jo, and their son, Michael Jay and his companion, Alisha Elam. He also leaves his father, E. D. Richard; sisters Doris Sutton and husband Burl; Gene Ingram and husband Dan; Sandra Scott and husband Ray; Marbary Segars and husband Johnny Joe, and Quinnie Bell and husband Ron; brothers Rayburn, and wife Marjorie; David and wife Kathy; Steve and wife Sandi; and John Richard and companion Diane Carlin. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Linda King and husband, Robert; Janice Miller and companion Sonny Kirk; Penny Weatherford; and brother-in-law James Fortner and companion, Carol Burke. He is also survived by Libby’s grandmother, Opal Chapman, whom he loved as his own grandmother; host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, Mike was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Ingram.
