Mike Baker

Michael Calvin Baker, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, companion, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the age of 62. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and love for his family that will continue to be remembered by all who knew him.

After graduating with the 83rd class of lumber inspectors from the National Hardwood Lumber Association, Mike devoted 42 years of his life working in the sawmill and lumber industry, where he served as both a mill supervisor and lumber inspector. A hardworking man through and through, Mike was no stranger to long days and believed in doing a job right. His strong work ethic and determination were qualities that remained with him throughout his life.

When he wasn't working, Michael was happiest outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for nature and loved fishing and hunting, especially turkey hunting with his son, Jake. Whether he was in the woods, on the water, or simply enjoying time outside, those were some of the places where Mike felt most at home.

Michael was a man of many talents who could do just about anything he set his mind to. From building furniture and sewing to cooking and fixing ponytails, there was very little he couldn't do. If something needed to be built, fixed, or figured out, Michael could usually find a way. His resourcefulness and ability to work with his hands were qualities those who knew him could always count on.

He leaves behind his loving companion, Pam Johnson; his children Chasity Baker Abbott (Logan), Faith Baker (fiancé Mason Kelley), Jake Baker, and Georgia Baker; the mother of his children, Cindy Singleton Baker; and his grandchildren Briggs Abbott, Stetson Abbott, and Wells Abbott. Michael is also survived by his sister, Karen Baker Moore (Glen), and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Calvin Baker and Laura Shearon Baker and grandparents Joe Marley Baker, Daisy Marie McDaniel Baker, Joe Nelson Shearon and Daisy Bell Keller Shearon.

Those who knew Mike knew that beneath his stubbornness was an incredibly generous heart. He showed his love in the things he did—through hard work, providing for his family, lending a helping hand, and finding a way to fix what needed fixing. No matter the need, Mike would find a way to provide.

Michael Calvin Baker leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a lifetime of memories that will continue to be shared. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the outdoors, his ability to find a solution to nearly any problem, and, most importantly, the love and protection he gave his friends and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
