Gayle Michael Cravens, age 72, of Henderson, passed away peacefully on June, 1st surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Dec. 21st 1953 in Danville, Illinois, Michael lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, professor, and colleague whose presence touched countless lives.
Dec. 21 was a special day. Not only his birthday, but he married the love of his life, Sandy Hardy. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and unwavering support for one another.
Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, faith, and compassionate character. He was an active member of Estes Church of Christ. His love for the Lord was evident in the way he lived and cared for others.
Michael spent the last 40 years at Freed Hardeman as Director of Masters in Counseling program, Director of Doctoral of Behavioral Health Program and Professor. He also spent countless hours in his private counseling practice in Jackson, TN for the last 30 years.
Family was everything to him. Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Cravens; his children, James Cravens (Tracy), Natalie Cravens (Chelsea), and Nicole Cravens (Justin); and his cherished grandchildren, Kaylan, Brylee, Bryn, Hadlee, Finlee, and baby Reid, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tuck & Joan Cravens, and his brother Warren Cravens.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the physicians, nurses, caregivers, hospice staff, and friends who provided comfort, care, and support during his illness.
A visitation will be held at Estes Church of Christ Henderson, TN on Fri. June 5th 2026 from 12-3pm with funeral services to follow at 3pm.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that he is now healed, at peace, and in the presence of his Savior.
In lieu of flower, the family request donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
