Mike Moore

January 22, 1948 — April 28, 2025

Middleton, Tennessee

Mike Moore, beloved member of the Bolivar and Middleton communities, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on Thursday, January 22, 1948, in Memphis, he lived a life marked by service, hard work, and dedication to his family.

Mike's professional journey was diverse and interesting. He enjoyed his career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring on August 31, 2012. Prior to this, Mike was a self-employed mechanic, operating Highway 125 Garage and Mike's Motors. His skills were also put to use at Nelms Chevrolet in Bolivar and working for Road Builders during the construction of the Tombigbee Waterway. Mike had an extensive array of employment experiences, which included driving gravel and sand trucks, installing septic tanks, and in sales at Joe's Cycle Shop in Bolivar, Foster's Auto World, and Oakley Ford in Memphis, where he had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and shake hands with Elvis Presley.

As a young boy, his family moved for a short time to Indiana, but returned to Memphis where he grew up.  Mike graduated from Trezvant High School in Memphis in 1966 and he further distinguished himself through his service in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971, achieving the rank of corporal while serving as an airplane mechanic specializing in servicing and repairing ejection seats.

A man of deep faith, Mike was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, having previously attended Brint's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition, his service to his Lord and Savior included being a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and song leader at Hebron Baptist Church. He cherished the opportunity to perform in churches throughout the area with his family as part of the Moore Family Singers, an accomplishment he held dear.

Mike will be remembered not only for his professional contributions but also for his passion for airplanes and vintage cars. He took great pleasure in restoring his cherished 1966 Mustang and showcasing it around our area. He also loved hosting Moore Family Reunions at his home, where family connections thrived.

He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Cox, and her husband, Ricky; Andrea Howell, and her husband, David; his sister, Sylvia Manning Rodrique; and his cherished granddaughters, Jecamyn Cox Jackson and her husband, Cody, Cassidy Cox, Anna Kate Howell and, Gracie Howell along with her fiancé, Payson Steinsultz. Mike was a proud great-grandfather to Raya and Evanna Jackson.
