Mrs. Nancy J. Smith, age 87 of Toone, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2017 at Bolivar General Hospital.
Mrs. Smith was born Wednesday, October 30, 1929 in Cloverport, Tennessee to the late David H. and Lois Walton Jones. On Saturday, August 12, 1950, she was united in marriage to Mr. A. E. Smith, Jr., who preceded her in death Wednesday, August 21, 2013.
A lifelong resident of Toone, she was an Elementary School Teacher for Hardeman County Schools for 18 years. She was an active member of Toone Baptist Church, where she served as the pianist for 30 years, and taught First, Second and Third Grade Sunday School classes for 20 years. She was an avid gardener and supplied vegetables for many of her fellow Toone residents. She also loved flowers, and enjoyed keeping and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lambert and husband John of Toone; brothers, William D. Jones and wife Barbara of Eads, Joseph Jones and wife Rosemary of Toone, and Thomas Lavon Jones and wife Eulalia of McMinnville; sister, Glynda Mitchell and husband George of Bolivar; grandchildren, Stephen Lambert, Melissa Hazelwood and husband Bo, Ashley Zawacki and husband Ryan, Lindsay Workmon and husband Greg, and Jordan Stack and wife Mallory; and great-grandchildren, Will, Tate and Harper Zawacki and Everett Workmon.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Stack, who passed away December 17, 2006.
