She was born in Oakland, KY the daughter of the late James Harrison and Thelma Woodrow Naylor.They later moved to Finger, where she grew up. She went to school at Finger and graduated Chester County High School in 1948 and attended to U.T at Knoxville and graduated with B. A. Degree in Home Economics and later a Master Degree in Education for Home Economics. She worked with the Decatur County Extension Service. She was married to Dr. Bobby Woodruff in 1953 and they made their home in Norfolk, VA, while he was in the Navy. They later lived in New Jersey where both taught school. They returned to Finger in 1978 and she taught Home Economics at Chester County High School for twenty years and retired in 1998. She continued to make her home in Finger. Mr. Woodruff died in 1989. She moved to Henderson in 1993 and late moved to Cullman, AL, to be near her son Todd’s family while Major Todd Woodruff was serving in Iraq. She went into the hospital three weeks ago.
She was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church of Cullman and her former Church Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading and delivering meals-on-wheels and working with various charities over her lifetime. Most of all she loved being with her family and grandchildren.
She is survive by a son Major Todd A. Woodruff and his wife Sheila of Cullman, AL; a daughter Laura Canaday and her husband Tony of Corinth., MS; grandchildren, Selina and T.J. Woodruff of Cullman, AL; Justin Gilley of Tuscaloosa, AL, Kirby Woodruff of Dresden, TN, Bethany, Aaron and Drew Canaday of Corinth, MS; a brother Glenn Naylor and his wife Charlotte of Finger and a sister Sue Wright and her husband Bob of Martin, TN; several nieces and nephews.
