NELDA BROOKS O’BARR
Henderson, TN: Nelda Viola Brooks O’Barr age 91 passed away September 29, 2018 at her home.
She was born September 4, 1927 in Tyronza, AR the daughter of the late Travis Hiram and Pearl Elmida Pipes Brooks. She graduated from Dyess High School in 1944. She moved to Memphis in 1945 and in 1951 married Juano S. Cox. They made their home in Memphis. She worked at Memphis General Depot in the 1950’s and in 1967 she went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as an Office Administrator, retiring in 1987. Mr. Cox passed away June 25, 1994. She later married Burleigh R. O’Barr in 1986 and they lived in Evening Shade, AR. Mr. O’Barr passed away in 1998. She moved to Chester County in 2003.
She loved to paint, gardening outdoors and indoors and she loved to help others. She was a member of the Old Hickory Church of Christ.
Mrs. O’Barr is survived by two sons, Juano Cox, Jr. of Chester County and Travis Gordon Cox (Susan) of Cornelius, NC; three daughers, Juanell Lemon (Jim) of Bandon, OR, Mary Elizabeth Drexler (Les) of Memphis and Joyce Needham (Greg) of Henderson; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and a brother, Roy Donald Brooks.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Gary Smalley officiating. Burial will follow in Woodville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday.
