Nelle Roberts

February 21, 1912 — July 11, 2007

Mrs. Roberts was born February 21, 1912, to the late Nathan T. and Rosa Boggs Dowdy. Following graduation from Frank Hughes School in Clifton, she attended Milligan College and graduated from Memphis State University. She taught school for 39 years where she was lovingly called "Miss Nelle" by her many students. She was an active member of Clifton United Methodist Church and served as church organist, pianist, music director, Sunday School teacher, and United Methodist Women leader. She also served as an officer in the Eastern Star. She was a lifelong resident of Clifton, Tennessee until recent months when her health required that she relocate to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Brandon, Mississippi.



She was married to the late James R. Roberts. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, George Nathan Roberts; her great-grandson, Blake Arnold; her parents and her eleven brothers and sisters.



Mrs. Roberts was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed by her children, Rosa Dial and husband, Thomas, of Brandon, MS, and Jimmy Roberts, Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Clifton, TN; grandchildren: Nanette Arnold of Lobelville, TN, Stacy and Scott Furey of Overland Park, KS, Lori and Matt Crosby of Snellville, GA, Chris and Kim Roberts of Eads, TN, and Shelley and Scott Pantano of Lexington, KY. She also leaves sisters-in-law Dorothy R. Dorsey of Memphis, TN, Margaret R. Martin of Taylor, TX, and Rhea Grimes Roberts of Clifton, TN; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
