NETTYE CHILDRESS HAMMETT
Henderson, TN: Nettye Mae Childress Hammett, age 75 passed away March 5, 2013 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born and reared at Humboldt the daughter of the late Elvis Arthur and Velma Gardner Childress. She attended schools at Humboldt. She married Leon Hammett in 1953 and they made their home in Humboldt until 1971, when they moved to Henderson where Mr. Hammett worked for Grinnell Corporation. Mrs. Hammett was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson and a member of the Nadine Carroll Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Hammett of Henderson; a daughter, Beth Hammett Buchanan and husband Michael of Henderson; six grandchildren and one brother, Paul Childress of Humboldt.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Leon Hammett in 2010 and two brothers, Chester Lee Childress and Preston Childress.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Pepper Pratt officiating and burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery at Humboldt, TN.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel beginning at 5:00 PM on Wednesday.
