N.H. ‘DOC’ ESSARY

 Luray, TN: Nois Houston Essary, age 96, passed away March 5, 2024, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

He was born December 24, 1927, in Enville, TN, the son of the late James Dexter and Millie Deedie Adams Essary. He grew up in Enville.

He married Jo Ann Daws on July 28, 1962. They made their home in Memphis for several years, then moved to Luray in 1975.

He worked as a truck driver for Illinois Central Railroad for twenty-two years retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 667 in Memphis.

He was also a heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a very hard worker who also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, going to the river and fishing some more. He also loved St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.

He enjoyed spending time with his five grandsons, and he was always interested in knowing what they were doing.

He was a member of the Diamond Grove Church of Christ.   

Mr. Essary is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Daws Essary of Luray; a son, Gregory Essary (Kimberly) of Wildersville, TN and a daughter, Renee Branham (Eddie) of Luray; five grandchildren, Dexter Phillips (Rebecca), Shane Phillips (Hannah), Hunter Essary (Melina Parker-fiancée), Heath Essary (Chelsey Gore-Fiancée), and Austin Branham (Mercedes); four great grandchildren, Caulder Parker, Eisley Phillips, Oakley Barnes and Stetson Branham; one sister, Margie Essary of Memphis and a brother-in-law, Bill Daws of Luray, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Carlos Essary,  Auvie Essary, Maxell Essary, Webb Essary, and James Essary; and five sisters, Faye Bishop, Willie Sue Clark, Lois Jean Smith, Jupie Knoff and Pauline Essary.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 8^th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Al Price officiating. Burial will follow at New Beech Grove Cemetery, Huron, TN.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday.
