Obituary

Norma Lea Robinson Chitwood, age 83, of Jackson TN passed away on April 11, 2026.

She was born on January 28,1943 in the Montezuma Community of Chester County to the late MSgt Leroy and Ruth Roland Robinson.She was the oldest of three children including brothers Joe and Richard Robinson. As the daughter of a decorated officer, she grew up in multiple states and countries while her father was in the military. She did attended grade school in Chester County and graduated from Frankfort American High School in 1961.

In high school she met her future husband Joe Wayne Chitwood. They were married in 1962 and had three children, Michael Scott, Sherry Anne (Deceased) and David Wayne. She was a loving wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was an avid reader and traveler. Norma was known by all for her creative flair for repurposing vintage quilts into a variety of dolls that have been sold both nationwide and abroad. She has been featured in several magazines, recognizing her for her unique designs and talent. She was introduced to the Arts and crafts world by operating and managing several Arts and Crafts workshops at various military bases they were stationed at during their deployment. She was a retired Civil Servant. During this time, she developed an interest in Golf and became an avid golfer and a member of the LPGA.

As much as she enjoyed traveling, she always had a special place in her heart for Jackson TN. Norma was known far and wide in the Arts and Crafts world. She was often known by her nickname “Dixie”. Her presence was unmistakable and so was her kindness, she never met a stranger and always had time for a story. Norma was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church, was very social and always enjoyed interacting with people. She also enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her sons Michael Chitwood (Sheila) of Cumberland Furnace TN and David Chitwood (Tami) of Jackson TN; Grandchildren Michael Chitwood Jr. (Sarah) of Newport TN, Dakota Chitwood of Cumberland Furnace TN, Nathan Chitwood and Tyler Chitwood of Jackson TN. She is also survived by her 6 great-grandchildren: Kynleigh-Jo, Michael, Naomi, Kadence, Jacob and Kolton.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Shackelford Funeral Directors - Casey Chapel with burial to follow in Cave Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel on Wednesday, April 15 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and then on Thursday from 12:00 - 2:00 PM service time.
