Norma Jean Perry Dempsey was born February 9, 1931 in Bells, Tennessee the daughter of the late Barn and Nola Wren Perry.Mrs. Dempsey was a 1949 graduate of Whiteville High School in Whiteville, Tennessee where she played basketball. She was chosen as "Miss Whiteville" in that same year. Mrs. Dempsey had worked as a waitress for Lowe's Bar-B-Que in Memphis and later for Western Sizzler in Batesville, MS. She enjoyed watching "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffith Show", and was Baptist in faith. Mrs. Dempsey departed this life on August 15, 2011 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 80 Years, 6 Months, 5 Days. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Ray (Gaines) Huntley and companion J. C. McCullough of Finger, TN and Bablin Diane (Jack) Smith and husband William of Middleton, TN; two sons, Paul Lee Gaines of Indianapolis, IN and Don Charles Jack and wife Penny of Martinsville, IN; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. Services will be held on August 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, with Bill and Karen Linam officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Hill Memorial Gardens at Bethel Springs, Tennessee.
