Norman C. Britt

Norman C. Britt departed this life on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 1 day. He was born in Mount Olive, Alabama on August 1, 1927, the son of the late Clydie Fields Britt and John Quincy Adams Britt. On May 25, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ann Dockery, who survives.

Norman served in the United States Navy as Seaman First Class from November 1943 to April 1946 during World War II. He then reenlisted January 1951 and served thru July 1954 during the Korean Conflict. Norman was an over the road truck driver and had worked for Frisco Railroad, Union Pacific, and retired from Roadway Express. He attended Calvary Baptist Church of Adamsville, Tennessee, and was a member of the Teamster's Union Local 667 and the Tin Can Sailors. Norman was a loving devoted husband, father, and grandfather; he was a true "Daddy". He had a big heart and was always trying to help others. He was plain spoken, strong, brave and a proud American. He loved traveling, talking with friends, working outside, and attending Naval reunions.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann Britt of Adamsville, Tennessee; children, Dena Britt of Adamsville, Tennessee, Edwin Britt and wife, Susan of Smyrna, Tennessee, and Sterling Britt and wife, Brandy of Adamsville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and special Naval brothers, Jim Putman of Deluth, Minnesota and Stick Lechtrech of Bakersfield, California.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline Newborn and Dorothy Michaelson.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the St. Labre Indian School, 1000 Tongue River Road, Ashland, MT 59004.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Shackelford Funeral Director's in Adamsville, Tennessee.
