Norman Woodrow Carroll, age 97, died peacefully on October 18, 2015 at Shannondale Health Care facility in Maryville, TN. He was born August 25, 1918 in Stantonville, TN to William W. and Maggie Wilks Carroll. Mr. Carroll is survived by daughter Beverly Ward of Knoxville, son Rob and wife Annette of Walland, TN, granddaughter Alden DeFeo (Marc) of Nashville, grandson Josh Ward (Kellie) of Knoxville, granddaughter Chantelle Reed (Brad), granddaughter Collette Reeves and great granddaughters, Ellison DeFeo and Chloe, McKenzie and Savannah Reed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of 72 years Maxine Robinson Carroll, son Norman Carroll Jr., brothers Gilcie, Grady and Lloyd and sister Amy.
Mr. Carroll received BS degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a WW II veteran serving in the Navy in the Pacific. He was a 30 year member of the Army National Guard in Selmer.
He was a farmer, school teacher and principal and retired from the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services in 1978. He served as an alderman in his hometown of Stantonville and was instrumental in setting up the Volunteer Fire Department, the Ruritan Club and the Stantonville Cemetery. He was an avid quail hunter and fisherman.
He was a long time member of Stantonville Methodist Church.
Interment will be in Stantonville TN Cemetery with graveside services at 2 PM on November 1, 2015. Services will be handled by Shackleford Funeral Home of Selmer.
