Norman Holder was born in Savannah, Tennessee on June 26, 1962, to the late Hollie “Babe” Holder and Mary Lou Russom Wilson.
Norman honorably served his country in the United States Navy from August 16, 1983 until July 1, 1987. Following his military service, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama. He then dedicated his career to education as an English and Literature teacher at Perry County High School, where he became a beloved mentor to countless students before retiring after 28 years. In addition to teaching, Norman also served as the school’s assistant band director, sharing his passion for music with generations of young musicians.
Norman was a lifelong musician. He found great joy in playing both the drums and guitar. He especially cherished performing with the community orchestra in Florence, Alabama. Above all, Norman lived with deep compassion for others. Guided by the teachings of Christ, he held a strong belief in the dignity and worth of every person. He was a lifelong humanitarian and a devoted advocate for human rights, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, conviction, and service to others.
Norman Holder departed this life on July 3, 2026, in Panama City, Florida, at the age of 64 years and 7 days.
He is survived by his sister, Regina Holder Beaty and her husband Robert of Panama City, Florida; stepbrothers, Charles Templeton of Clifton, Tennessee, Stacy Templeton of Camden, Tennessee, Kenneth Templeton of Clifton, Tennessee, and Willard Templeton of Collinwood, Tennessee; nieces, Sarah Isaacs and Stephanie Bender, both of Panama City, Florida; uncle, Marshall Russom of Selmer, Tennessee; and a host of cousins, stepnieces and stepnephews.
