Nova D. Hilliard

Mr. Nova D. Hilliard, age 87 of Oakland, passed from this life Friday morning, February 27, 2009 at his home. Born November 13, 1921 in Fayette County to the late Alva H. and Alice Peterson Hilliard, he was a retired farmer and carpenter. He married Lillie Mae Smith, who survives, June 1, 1947 and served in the United States Army during WWII as an army medic. He was a member of the VFW Post 5013 in Somerville and was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Whiteville.In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Patricia Howard and husband Jimmie of Hot Springs, AR and Faye Perkins and husband Kenneth of Hickory Withe; three sons, Aubrey Hilliard and wife Barbara of Oakland, Jim Hilliard and wife Beverly of Somerville, and Charles Hilliard and wife Jackie of Bolivar; a sister, Carolyn Dowdy of the Mt. Moriah Community; a brother, Hubert Rogers and wife Evelyn of Memphis; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
