Miss Ocidell Massengill age 91, passed away August 26, 2025 at Maplewood Healthcare in Jackson.
She was born April 30, 1934, in and raised in the Sweetlips Community of Chester County, TN, the daughter of the late Odus Montie and Liddie Etness Lee Massengill. As a child, she loved riding her bicycle and climbing trees. She later moved to Henderson and graduated from Chester County High School in 1953. That same year she began her working career at Salant & Salant Mfg. and then Henderson Leisure Wear. She worked as a seamstress and quality control. In adulthood, her hobbies included sewing, yard work, especially vegetable gardening and growing flowers. She retired in 1992 to stay home and care for her mother. She also loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a cat lover and always keep several. She attended Cave Springs Baptist Church.
After her health deteriorated, she lived in Maplewood Healthcare in Jackson for the last few years.
Miss Massengill is survived by a sister, Shirley Ellington; sister-in-law Minnie Sue Massengill; nieces Phyllis HOlder, Cindy (Ray) Sullins, Sharon (Martin) Hamm; nephews Jeff (Donna) Ellington, Tracy (Christy) Massengill; two great nieces, four great nephews and three great-great nephews and many friends and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James O. Massengill , sister, Jonell Massengill brother-in-law Alvin Ellington, nephew-in-law Jeff Holder and great nephew Chris Holder.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 2nd at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with burial to follow at Sweetlips Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 to 1:00 PM service time.
