OMER DUBERRY
Henderson, TN: George Omer DuBerry age 91 passed away April 17, 2017 at Elmcroft of Jackson.
He was born February 7, 1926 in Chester County, Estes Community, the son of the late John Rubin and Lela Dickey DuBerry. His father died in 1928 and his mother married Bryan Lewis in 1929. Who raised Omer. He attended school in Finger, attended West Virginia University and Magnolia Bible College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the First Marine Air Wing in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned in November 1945 and was married to Marie King of the Silerton Community of Chester County in 1946. He was an auto mechanic for J.D. Frank, Ted Clements and Henderson Truck and Tractor Company. In 1966 he moved to West Virginia where he was a mechanic for Cedar Coal Company near Charleston, West Virginia and was a minister for Churches of Christ in that area. He returned to McNairy County near Bethel Springs in 1992. He preached for the Refuge Church of Christ and did part time electrical work after returning to this area.
Mr. DuBerry is survived by his wife, Marie King DuBerry; a son, George O. DuBerry, Jr. of Ocala, FL; four daughters, Bonita Gordon Staggs of Jackson, Marilyn Ann Cagle of Henderson, Karen Frances Sanders of Montgomery, AL and Lydia Jane Atkins of Seth, West VA; eight grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents his step-father and two sisters, Tommie Mayfield and Betty Jo Lewis Moody and a brother, J.D. Lewis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Roy Sharp, John McCaskill and Nelson Siler officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday.
