Bethel Springs: Onnie Beene Houska, age 87, passed away at her daughters home in Jackson on Saturday, December 03,2011.
She was the daughter of the late Walter Gordon and Mary Ann Elizabeth Yearwood Beene. She went to school at Harmony. In 1957 she married Charles F. Houska from Chicago, IL. They made their home in Chicago until 1969 when they moved to Bethel Springs and have lived there ever since. Mrs. Houska started work a Brown Shoe Company in Selmer in 1972 and worked there until it closed. Mr Houska passed away in 1997. Mrs. Houska loved to cook for her family and enjoyed growing flowers. She was a member of the Finger Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons; Tim Houska of Olive Branch, MS and Chris Christensen of California, tow daughters; Sandra Kirk of Jackson, TN and Barbara Lee of Olive Branch, MS.; two brothers Jere Beene of Henderson, TN and Jim Beene of Bethel Springs, TN: one sister Sue Burgend of Henderson,TN and 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. A sister-in-law Georgia Beene.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Amanda Kirk in 1995. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Beene, B.W. Beene and Curtis Beene and four sisters, Marie Kennedy, Margie Stanfill, Georgiana Rameriz and Vela Romines.
