Mr. Orbie Clice Berry, Jr., age 91, of Cypress Inn, TN, passed away on Sunday evening, June 1, 2025, at North Alabama Medical Center in Florence.
Born in Cypress Inn on November 3, 1933, he was the son of the late Orbie Clice Berry, Sr. and the late Lillie Louise Langford Berry. He was a lifelong resident of Cypress Inn and a 1951 graduate of Collinwood High School.
Orbie proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. During his service, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Martin, on January 1, 1955. Together they built a life in Cypress Inn and were married for 68½ years before Mary Ellen’s passing in July 2023.
A dedicated cattle farmer throughout his life, Orbie also owned and operated Berry's Package Store for over 30 years. Known for his strong work ethic, he poured himself into everything he did.
Committed to his community, he served for 28 years as a commissioner on the Wayne County Commission and was a proud member of the American Legion Post 254 in Collinwood.
Orbie never met a stranger. He was known for his friendly spirit, infectious laughter, and love of telling a good joke.
He is survived by three daughters Susan Morgan (Tony), Nancy Morgan (John) and Lillie Ruth Brewer (Dennis) all of Cypress Inn; 8 grandchildren Suzanne Clayton (Alan), Mary Leigh Burns (Brandon), Haley Griggs (Justin), Jessica Bailey (Austin), John Berry Morgan (Makenzie), Phillip Berry II (Whitney), Norbie Brewer, and Merida Brewer; 15 great grandchildren Parker, Preston, Bryant, Sadie, Jax, Lainey Rae, Garrett, Reese, JT, Ella, Grant, Josey, Savannah, Elsie Jane and John Clice; three brothers Robert "Bob" Berry (Odean) of Lutts, TN, James David "Jim" Berry (Betty Sue) of Cypress Inn and Raymond Thomas Berry (Shirley) of Summertown, TN; and a special caregiver Jennifer Melson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Phillip Berry and a sister Annette Bradley.
Pallbearers will be John Berry Morgan, Phillip Berry, Norbie Brewer, Alan Clayton, Austin Bailey and JT Burns.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, June 5, at Shackelford Funeral Directors - Collinwood Chapel with Bro. Casey Jones officiating and burial to follow in Memorial Gardens of Wayne County - Collinwood with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends at Collinwood Chapel on Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and then on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM service time.
