Paul Borden passed away on Dec 9, 2023, at the age of 84 in Jackson, TN. He was surrounded by family.
Born to Rosie (Goodrum) and Amos Borden on June 26, 1939, he was the fourth child and eldest son of nine siblings. Paul married Alice Clifton in 1958 and together they had four children: Terresa Borden, Terron Borden, Paula Borden, and Lane Borden.
Paul enjoyed a great number of things, too numerous to list them all, but at the top of the list are his family, boxing, country music, western movies, and anything that contained chocolate, along with a good cup of coffee. He never met a stranger and always had a story or laugh to share. His charisma served him well in both his personal and business life. After leaving Memphis Sash in the 1980s, Paul decided to strike out on his own and started his own glass and shower business-- first named Holly’s Glass, later renamed Paul Borden Glass--which served the West TN area. Over the years he received numerous awards recognizing his excellence in the industry. Despite announcing his intent to retire to friends and family in 2020, Paul maintained a working office at the business he shared with his son, Terron, in Selmer, TN, and continued to perform small jobs in his free time, because as he once stated to his granddaughter, “What am I supposed to do? Sit home all day?”
To his immediate family, Paul was known simply as Dad, and as more generations were added, he gained the title of Pawpaw. Along with his children, he had two granddaughters, three great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter. For them, he was never more than a call away and with them, he was sometimes firm, but always kind. He served as their rock, and they will forever miss his jokes, advice, and opinions. His guidance was the lighthouse in any storm the family weathered, and they are now floating adrift at sea without him. They loved him tremendously and now pay the price of that love with the currency of grief.
Paul is preceded in death by parents Rosie and Amos; wife, Alice; son, Lane; great-granddaughter, Alyson; and sisters, Arvine and Loraine. He is survived by his children Terresa, Terron, and Paula (Maggie); His granddaughters Holly (Tommy) and Niki (Scotty); great-granddaughters Kayla (Casey) and Trinity; and great-great-granddaughter Alyce; along with sisters Nola, Elsie, Ludie Marie, Mary Ruth and brothers J.C. and Lynus, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation service, only a small graveside service for friends and family.
