Mr. Paul Jones Horne, age 88, departed this life Monday morning, March 11, 2013 at Methodist LeBonheur-Germantown Hospital.
Mr. Horne was born on a farm in Chester County, Tennessee November 20, 1924 to the late Achsa Ardell Jones and Paul Eugene Horne. He attended Martin, Tennessee schools and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II from 1943-1946 in the 34th Bomber Group and 20th Air Force servicing B 24 and B 29 aircraft and equipment, reaching the rank of Corporal. Afterwards, he attended the University of Tennessee at Martin and Knoxville earning a BS in Engineering and later a Masters of Engineering. While he was in college, he worked in a family-owned farm implement and truck dealership.
He was first employed at Procter & Gamble which managed the Milan Defense Arsenal and was awarded the "Know How" Award. He then taught college engineering and management at the University of Tennessee at Martin from 1957 until his retirement in 1989. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Tennessee.
On September 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Ann Elizabeth Mitchell of Bolivar, Tennessee who preceded him in death in 1994. He was a member of the Martin Lion's Club, American Legion, and the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Headley and husband Martin of Paoli, Pennsylvania; three sons, Alan Horne and wife Nora of Greenville, South Carolina, Paul N. Horne and wife Julia of Germantown, Tennessee and James Horne and wife Susan of LaDue, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, Stephen Headley, Rachel Headley, Alan Horne, Jr. and wife Misty, Jennifer Horne, Brandon Horne, Michael Horne, Brian Horne and Shelby Horne; one great-grandchild, Austin Horne; two brothers, J. Alan Horne of Cordova, Tennessee and Mark Horne of Obion, Tennessee; two nieces, Alanda Dwyer and Amanda Hurliman; and two nephews, John Horne and Brett Mitchell.
