Paul Layton was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on August 18, 1937, the son of the late Alford and Pearl Meeks Layton. On June 16, 1963, he was united in marriage to Grace Pauline Fuqua, who survives. Mr. Layton departed this life on April 5, 2018, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
Mr. Layton was a member of Counce First United Pentecostal Church. After high school, he lived and worked at a gas station with his brother, Eugene, in Memphis, Tennessee. He later moved back to Counce, Tennessee and worked with his brother, Charlie, at a gas station before he helped build the paper mill and Staffer Chemicals. Mr. Layton loved Ford automobiles, because they were loud and sounded good. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and mowing yards. Mr. Layton was a very loving and devoted family man, which he showed in his love for family vacations in Florida and family reunions where they camped and cooked fish together.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, Mr. Layton is survived by his daughter, Lisa Layton of Counce, Tennessee.
Along with his parents, Mr. Layton was preceded in death by his sons, Ricky Edward Layton and Phillip Lynn Layton; sisters, Bea Surratt and Mary Hurley; and brothers, Gene Layton and Charlie Layton.
