Peggy Jo Berryman, a dedicated public servant, beloved matriarch, and lifelong resident of Ramer, Tennessee, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of service and devotion. She was born on January 18, 1949, the daughter of the late Eugene Baker and Hattie Martin Baker.
Peggy was a woman of ambition and intellect. She was a proud graduate of Ramer High School, Class of 1967, and took great pride in being a Ramer Eagle. She continued her education at West Tennessee Business College, graduating in 1968. Her professional career was marked by her sharp administrative skills, as she served as an assistant for various offices, including those of Don Humphrey and Action Apparel, and later worked as a sales agent for Liberty National.
On July 25, 1970, she was united in marriage to Jimmie Berryman, beginning a journey of partnership and love that spanned more than five decades. Peggy’s commitment to her hometown was deeply felt by all who knew her. She was a proud member of the Ramer Ruritans and a dedicated Modern Woodmen Youth Club leader, where she invested her time and energy into the lives of young people. Her leadership and devotion to her community led to her serving two years as Mayor of Ramer, a role in which she worked tirelessly for its betterment.
A woman of steady and abiding faith, Peggy was a longtime member of Antioch Church of Christ in Ramer, where she found great comfort and fellowship. In her quieter moments, Peggy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to lose herself in a good book, keep up with her favorite soap operas, and tend to the vibrant flowers in her yard. Above all else, her greatest passion was her family. She found her greatest happiness in staying connected with their lives and spending cherished time together.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jimmie Berryman of Ramer; her sons, Anthony Berryman and wife Paige of Decatur, Alabama, and Stephen Berryman of Ramer; and her cherished grandchildren, Lucy Wilson and husband Patrick of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Trudy Lambert and husband Alex of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jace Berryman of Ramer. She is also survived by her sister, Kathie Berryman and husband Dennis of Ramer; her brother, Tim Baker and wife Susan of Ramer; her brother-in-law, Michael Berryman and wife Annette of Adamsville, Tennessee; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Hattie Baker; her parents-in-law, J.B. and Zora Berryman; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
