Peggy Hosea Pitts was born on March 23, 1930 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late John Wesley and Rosa Copeland Hosea.
On December 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jack Wright Pitts in Corinth, Mississippi, who preceded his wife in death on July 2, 2009.
Peggy was a 1948 graduate of Central High School in Savannah, Tennessee, where she was ranked in the High Ten of her class. After high school she worked at the Savannah Button Factory, Brown Shoe Company, and Hughes Worm Ranch. In 1965, she received her Nursing Degree from Crump Technical Vocational School. She would go on to work for Hardin County Hospital for 12 years and later work for Hardin Home Nursing Home until her retirement in 1995 as the Director of Nurses.
Mrs. Pitts was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Harlequin Romances and historical books. She was also a Bible scholar. She was also an animal lover and especially loved dogs. In her spare time, Peggy loved to quilt and would piece together quilts and quilted by hand. She loved to spend time in her garden and tend to her flowers. She had a lovely singing voice and was an excellent alto and soprano. She also loved corresponding with her beloved pen pal, Ailene Richardson, who lived in Belfast Northern Ireland. She started writing Ailene at the age of 16 and continued until Ailene passed away in her 90s. Peggy was a member of both Campground Methodist Church and Trinity United Methodist Church in her lifetime.
Peggy Hosea Pitts departed this life on June 17, 2026 in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 25 days.
She is survived by her daughters, Madelyn (Maxie) Keith and Marcia (David) Tedford; granddaughter, Leslie Ann (Jay) Emison; and 3 grandchildren, Scarlett Madelyn Emison, Lorelei Claire Emison, and Jack Theophilus Emison.
In addition to her parents and husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Nuel Hosea.
