Peggye Spencer was born on May 29, 1941 in Savannah, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Ulys and Fannie Southern Singleton.
On December 7, 1963, she was united in marriage to William "Howard" Spencer, who preceded his wife in death on February 22, 2021.
"Granny" was how she was known to everyone. She was Pentecostal in faith and was a member of River Heights Pentecostal Church in Crump, Tennessee. She loved her flowers, crafting, crocheting, painting, and quilting. Above all else, she loved her family. She always ensured they were all taken care of and that they knew how much she loved them. Peggye was always cooking cakes and pies for any church event or fundraiser. She also loved to travel, especially to the mountains.
Peggye Spencer departed this life on February 11, 2026 in Crump, Tennessee, at the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 13 days.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Ray Austin (Ellen) of Crump, Tennessee; grandchildren, Stephanie Hurst (David), Madison Franks (Jesse), Wade Austin (Crystal), Chris Austin, and Kendrick Henson (Michelle); great grandchildren, Blake Edwards, Everett Franks, Emmy Franks, Alyssa Shankles (Jared), Hannah Austin, Emma Austin, Hunter Henson, Landon Henson, and McKenzie Collins; and great great grandchildren, Ellie Shankles and Enoch Shankles.
In addition to her husband and parents, Peggye was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Evans; brothers, JR Singleton, Bobby Singleton, and Barney Marshall; sister, Esther Sczepczenski; and Will and Maybelle Mashall, who raised and loved Peggye as their own.
