Miss Stanfill graduated from Chester County High School in May 1951 and went to Memphis School of Commerce, where she graduated in October 1952. She worked in several interesting places in secretarial positions such as the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Air Reserve Flying Center, the Civil Service in Memphis, and the Redstone Depot in Huntsville, Alabama. She entered Union University in 1958 and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science as well as a teaching certificate in 1961. She then continued working in Huntsville for a time then worked at the Milan Arsenal.
She then moved to Atlanta, Georgia and began work as a biologist in a lab with doctors for the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control studying malaria with animals. Her duties were very interesting as she got to work with monkeys, rabbits, insects, and gerbils. She did travel for experiments and helped author 49 papers that were published on their findings. She really enjoyed her work but retired in September 1990 with over 33 years of work in her field. She has resided in Henderson since that time. She was a member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed being in the choir for many years.
She died at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation on January 22, 2026, where her family and friends had lovingly cared for her. She was the daughter of the late Janice Summers Stanfill and Roy T. Stanfill. She had two brothers, the late Gerald Stanfill (Geraldine) and Joe R. Stanfill (Clara Sue), and a sister, Sarah Berkel (Richard). She had several nieces and nephews: the late Danny Stanfill (Myrna), Judy Stanfill, the late Chris Stanfill, Barbara (Mike) Magyer, Donna Ledbetter, and Nancy (Dave) Fouts. She had great-nieces and nephews Amy Green, Amber (Steven) Lay, Gregory Felder, Matthew (Leah) Magyer, Stephanie Ledbetter Clayton (Alex), Aaron Fouts, and Michael Fouts. She had great-great-nieces and nephews Kimberly Felder, Camron Magyer, Elliot Clayton, Makinsey Howell (Mitchell), Cooper Lay, and Christian Lay.
