PEGGY GARNER WHITMAN

Henderson, TN: Peggy Garner Whitman age 82, passed away July 6, 2023, at Henderson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born August 25, 1940, in Chester County, in the Hickory Corner Community, the daughter of the late Joe Clifford and Mary L.E. Burkhead Garner. She attended school at Hickory Corner and married Lonnie Whitman in 1956. They made their home in the Old Friendship Community.

She had worked in some of the local factories and drove a Chester County school bus for thirty years.

Her family raised horses in the Old Friendship Community.

She enjoyed cooking for family and community.

She was a member of the Old Friendship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Whitman is survived by a son, Craig Whitman (Janice) of Henderson; a daughter, Lona Whitman Bolton (Shawn) of Henderson; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a brother, Alfred Garner (Jo Ellen) of Finger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lonnie Odell Whitman (2016) a son, Darrel Whitman (2000) and two sisters, Jessie Lee Rowland and Ann Morrison.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, July 8^th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Glenn Harris and Iran Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Old Friendship Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM service time on Saturday.
