Philip Jay Meek

Philip Jay Meek was born in Savannah, Tennessee on October 31, 1957, the son of Madeleine Hughes Meek and the late Hillard Lee Meek. On September 25, 1976, he was united in marriage to Mary Joyce Harbin.

He had lived in Adamsville, Tennessee for most of his life and had lived in Murphysboro, Illinois for two years as Associate Pastor at Christ Community Church. Philip was the Campus Pastor at Love and Truth in Savannah, Tennessee. He was the Vice-President of the Hardin County Ministerial Association, Chaplain for the Tennessee State Trooper District 8, and Executive Director of Love and Truth Ministries.

Philip's first job was with the City of Adamsville as a teenager in high school. He worked at Aqua Glass and Encino Shirt Company as a young adult. At Encino's closing, he transitioned to the United Parcel Service where he worked for 18 1/2 years. In 1998, Philip retired from UPS and went into full time ministry.

Philip loved the Lord, his wife, his girls, their husbands as sons, and his grandchildren. He loved his sports, especially the Tennessee Vols. He loved people and was passionate about helping them come to know Christ as he did. He loved passionately. He lived passionately. He preached and taught the Word of God passionately. He was all in. When he made his decision to follow Christ over 31 years ago, he never looked back, only forward to how he could bring glory to the Kingdom.

Philip posted a devotion on Facebook each morning to encourage others in their walk with God. His Facebook page regularly impacted people from 14 countries who follow him, with Kenya, the UK, the Philippines and Uganda as a sampling.

Philip's heart cry was to inspire, mentor, and motivate others to attain a legacy of finishing the race on this earth well. He continually worked to develop his own relationship for that purpose. On January 20, 2017, he finished well!

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary Joyce Meek of Adamsville, Tennessee; daughters, Valerie Roxanne Barber and her husband, E.C. of Stantonville, Tennessee, Candice Suzanne Johnston and her husband, Jeremy of Ramer, Tennessee, and Mary Katherine Searcy and her husband, Andrew of Adamsville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Ethan Johnston, Maya Johnston, Case Barber, Colt Barber, Asa Jude Searcy, and Ellys Day Searcy; his mother, Madeleine Meek, age 94 of Adamsville, Tennessee; sister, Wanda Meek Harris of Adamsville, Tennessee; niece, Jane Rae LaDue; and her sons, Damon, Cade, Brodie, and Austin.
