Phill Baker

Phill Baker, a talented carpenter and skilled jack of all trades, passed away peacefully at his home in Bolivar, Tennessee, on November 26, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 20, 1949, in Alamo, Tennessee, he grew to become a cherished member of his community and a beloved figure amongst family and friends.

Phill's work as an excellent carpenter and sheet rock worker left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to witness his craftsmanship. Beyond his professional skills, he was a man of exceptional character—always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support to others. His passion for service extended to his volunteer work at Hebron Baptist Church, where he contributed his construction skills to assist with any church projects needed.  He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Viet Nam conflict in combat.

In life, Phill was profoundly dedicated to his family, especially his grandchildren, with whom he shared a deep bond. He took immense joy in their laughter and accomplishments, cherishing every moment spent together. He was always the star of family cookouts, proudly earning the title of "grillmaster." Those occasions were filled with laughter and great food, as he experimented with recipes and worked diligently on perfecting his special cornbread recipe.

A man of faith, Phill found solace and strength in the Bible, often sharing his love for singing hymns and uplifting those around him with his beautiful voice. Friends and family fondly remember his warm spirit and the joy he brought into their lives.

Phill is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Baker of Bolivar, whom he married on July 7, 2006; his daughters, Karen McGee and her husband, Mike, of Memphis; and Kimberlie Richards of Jackson. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Evan Hildenbrand, Jared McGee, Melah Kelley, and Clara Richards. He is survived by his brothers, Cletus Baker of Bolivar and Roger Baker of Semmes, AL, as well as his sisters, Wanda Woods of Olive Branch, MS, and Jo Gregory of Mason.

Phill was preceded in death by his parents, William Guy Baker and Cletha Parnell Williams Baker, along with six brothers and sisters, who now welcome him back with open arms.
