Phyllis Ann Marlow Poland

February 13, 1960 — August 5, 2023

Selmer, TN

Phyllis Ann Marlow Poland, of Adamsville, was born February 13, 1960, in McNairy County, TN. She was the first child of the late Joe and Kay Browder Marlow.
Ms. Poland departed this life on Saturday August 5th in Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 63 years after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her children: Ashley Corbin and husband Clint of Cedar Hill, TN, Emma Phillips of Nashville, TN, and John Poland of Lawrenceburg, TN; bonus daughter, Jasmine Poland of New Orleans, LA; two brothers Tim Marlow of Savannah, TN, Ron Marlow and special sister-in-law Terri of Shiloh, TN; two grandsons Dane and Grady Corbin; nephews Blake, Daulton, Hunter and Gavin; one niece Darby and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends that brought so much joy to her life.
Phyllis graduated with honors from Adamsville High School in 1978. She spent her hours after school and on the weekends helping the customers of Mildred’s Dress Shop in Adamsville that was owned by her very special “Auntie,” Mildred Crabtree. After high school Phyllis worked in radio advertising before spending several years as a stay-at-home mom to her children. Later, she went back to school as an adult and single mom while working full time to fulfill her dream of becoming a social worker. She graduated from University of Tennessee at Martin in 2004 with her Bachelors degree in social work and served the state of Tennessee in various capacities for more than 20 years before her retirement in 2021.
In her life Phyllis had many accomplishments and things to be proud of, but nothing brought her more pride and joy than being Mom to her three children Ashley, Emma Reese, and John Michael and Nonna to her two precious grandsons, Dane and Grady.
Phyllis loved making each and every holiday and birthday special for her children and grandchildren, always going above and beyond. No event was too small, and no matter where she had to travel to, she was always there to celebrate every accomplishment, sporting event, and milestone of those she loved. When Phyllis wasn’t spending time with her family, you could find her watching “The Voice,” seeking out yard sales, reading a good book, browsing on Amazon, or visiting with close friends.
Phyllis loved her Lawton community and was an active member at Clear Creek Baptist church, the same church she attended as a child. She served as the church secretary, a Sunday school teacher for the senior adult ladies, a vacation bible school leader, and even traveled to Ecuador on a mission trip to share her love of Jesus.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Poland is preceded in death by her brother, Mark Marlow, and nephew, Mason Marlow.
Memorial contributions can be made to Clear Creek Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Anthony Greco, Dr. Barton Sanders, Susan Utley, NP and all the staff at Tennessee Oncology for their excellent and loving care over the past year.
