Mr. Purvis Wayne McAfee of Middleton departed this life at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 6 days on Sunday afternoon, May 20, 2012 at Bolivar General Hospital.
He was born August 14, 1937 in Tippah County, Mississippi to the late Noel Hayes and Flora Mae Brown McAfee. A graduate of Walnut High School, he worked as a farmer as well as a shop foreman at Advance Manufacturing in Memphis for over 30 years. He was united in marriage to Carolyn McAfee, who survives, December 16, 1972. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed woodworking and farming, spending time with his grandchildren, and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion No. 198. He lived the last 12 years of his life in Middleton.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include six children, Cheryl McAfee Smith and husband Ray of Grand Junction, Roy Koimn and wife Lisa of Middleton, Tammy Wicker and husband Jerry of Oakland, Patti Hatcher and husband Walter of Falkner, Mississippi, Sheila Hiatt and husband Sherman of Charleston, Arkansas, and Mitch McAfee and wife Julie of Blue Mountain, Mississippi; a sister, Linda Hutchins of Ripley, Mississippi; two brothers, Michael McAfee of Tiplersville, Mississippi, and Richard McAfee of Moscow; and nine grandchildren, Will and Wesley Koimn, Jamie Wise, Christy Wicker, Brittney Short, Matthew and Lee Raney, Kirsten and Alec McAfee.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McAfee is preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Stewart and Barbara Nell McAfee; and a grandson, Wayne McAfee.
