Ralph C. Ayers, Lawrenceburg, TN was born August 10, 1923 in Collinwood, TN, the son of the late Charlie S. Ayers and Madgie Horton Ayers. Mr. Ayers departed this life on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilatation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 95 years, 1 month, 17 days. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in Europe during World War II receiving numerous awards. Mr. Ayers was retired from USDA Soil Conservation Service as a soil conservation technician. He was married to Maxine Kelso Ayers on October 9, 1949.
He is survived by his wife Maxine Kelso Ayers of Lawrenceburg, TN; three sons, Benny Ayers of Columbia, TN, Ivan Ayers of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Barry Ayers of Murfreesboro, TN; a daughter, Pamela Miles of Lawrenceburg, TN; seven grandchildren, Nick Ayers, Natalie Rogers, Kandy Norton, Robbie Miles, Cody Miles, Trent Ayers, and Anaston Ayers; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, Ross Ayers of Columbia, TN; four sisters, Lesbie Howell and Hazel Casteel both of Waynesboro, TN, Lorene Pigg of Collinwood, TN, and Susie Long of Waynesboro, TN. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ayers was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Melson.
Services will be Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors Chapel in Collinwood, Tennessee, with Ray Watkins officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Collinwood Memorial Gardens with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge. Visitation will be Saturday from 2:00-6:00 PM and Sunday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Nick Ayers, Cody Miles. Hunter Norton, Robert Rogers, Steve Howell, and Kade Kennedy.
