Ralph Nowell was born on September 01, 1941 in Madison County, Tennessee, the son of Robert and Flora Nell Nowell. He graduated from Northside High School Jackson, Tennessee in 1960. In 1964 he was married to Dorothy Laney, who survives him plus a son, David Nowell (Sue) of Santa Fe, New Mexico; daughter, Kristy Jones of Stilwell, Kansas; and two granddaughters, Brittanie Nowell of Spring Hill, Kansas and Kaci Knoche of Gardner, Kansas; sister, Janie Hickman; brother, James Nowell (Janice); nephews, Chuck Carothers and Chris Carothers; and nieces, Celia Jordan and Jamie Ann Mitchell. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his niece, Janet McEwen and son-in-law, Shane Jones. He pursued a career in the trucking industry and retired from Yellow Freight Trucking Company in 1998 as Senior Vice President. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and serving at the First Baptist Church, Counce, Tennessee, where he was a faithful and active member.

   The family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Counce or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
