RAY WALLACE
Nashville, TN: Raymond Crawford Wallace age 88 passed away May 23, 2012 at Richland Place in Nashville.
He was born and reared in McNairy County at Chewalla, the son of the late Andrew Crawford and Cora Ida Carter Wallace. He attended schools in McNairy County at Ramer, TN. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the 953rd field artillery battery, serving in the Invasion of France and the Battle of the Bulge and returned December 1945.
He returned to Memphis and worked as a bus driver for Memphis Transit. He married Brownie Weatherington in 1949.
Mr. Wallace went to work with the Local Union #713 of the Amalgamated Transit Union serving in all the different steps of the elected union. In 1965 he was elected Vice-President of the International Amalgamated Transit Union and served in various offices of the International Union and was elected to the International Executive Board from 1968 until 1976 when he became International Secretary Treasure from 1976 until his retirement in 1989. He was then voted by the General Executive Board as Secretary/Treasurer Emeritus.
They made their home in Washington, DC 1976 until 1992 when they moved to Nashville. He was a member of the Highland Street Church of Christ in Memphis.
He is survived by his wife, Brownie Weatherington Wallace of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and six sisters.
