Ray Wood

Ray Wood was born on April 23, 1934 in Counce, TN the son of the late William Mancel Wood and Louise W. Wood. Mr. Wood departed this life on October 20, 2019 in Corinth, MS at the age of 85 Years, 5 Months, 28 Days. He was united in marriage to Barbara Dunn on May 14, 1960. Of this marriage two daughters were born, Donna Wood Kennedy and husband David, and Wendi Wood, both of Selmer, TN.

Mr. Wood served in the U. S. Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. During his service time, he was stationed in Germany. He shared many stories with his family about the time he was stationed there.

He grew up in the sawmill business working with his father and also worked at other jobs throughout the earlier years of his lifetime. He retired from Tennessee River Pulp and Paper Company in Counce.

In 1988, his first grandchild was born and gave him the name "Pop". From that point most people referred to him as "Pop" and he loved it. Pop loved to cook and spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was always baking and taking sweets to people in his community and was best known for his pecan pies. He blessed many with a pie. Pop was a very generous and giving man, not only to his family, but others around him.

Other than his wife and daughters, he is survived by five grandchildren, Kirby Wood Kennedy and wife Brittany of Savannah, TN, Emily RayAnn Davis and husband Phillip of Corinth, MS, Memori AnnaLee Freeman, Bella Ann Redmon, and Ella Ray Redmon, all of Selmer; three great grandchildren, Harbor Hendrix Kennedy, Hudson Hollis Kennedy, both of Savannah, TN and Bain Henry Davis of Corinth, MS; a brother, Bobby Wood of Counce along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Carroll; five brothers, W. M. (Junior) Wood, David Wood, Rodger Wood, Donny Wood, Leroy Wood.

In lieu of flowers, family request memorial donations be made to the Center Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o David Goheen, 5490 Damon Rd., Michie, TN 38357.
