REBA BURKHEAD MCCOMBS
Milledgeville, TN: Reba Virginia Thurmond McCombs, age 85 passed away October 2, 2011 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born and reared in Dyer County, the daughter of the late Elbert Monroe and Prude Jane Cook Thurmond. She went to school at Phillips School House in Chester County. She married Ambrose Burkhead in 1939 and they made their home in Chester County. Reba worked at Jarvis at Bolivar. Mr. Burkhead died in 1980. She was married to Raymond McCombs in 1978. They made their home at Morris Chapel. He died in 1996. She moved to Heritage Towers in 2007 and had made her home with Darlene since late 2007.
She is survived by 4 sons, Thurmond Burkhead of Savannah, Ronnie Burkhead of Savannah, Billy Burkhead of Milledgeville and Mike Burkhead of Plainfield, IL and 4 daughters, Nell King of Henderson, Kay Hart of Lexington, Darlene Burkhead of Milledgeville and Martha Toney of Pearl River, LA and a sister, Ernestine Bishop of Henderson, 46 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 sons, Johnnie Burkhead, James Burkhead and Carlos Ray Burkhead and three brothers, Buddy Thurmond, Ray Thurmond and Buck Thurmond.
